About iView
iView in its various incarnations (iView Multimedia, iView Media & Media Pro, Microsoft Expression Media) was for several years one of the most popular media cataloguing systems. Claiming many industry awards, including MacWorld best software of the year 2002, it was used by thousands of users worldwide and corporations, notably National Geographic, Pixar and Condé Nast.
iView was originally created in 1996, as a means of helping the development of multimedia CDROM to catalog and validate thousands of media files (audio, video, images, fonts, etc) required for compiling such products.
With the evolution of digital cameras, iView evolved. Registered as a software business in 1999 and was refocused towards digital photography with emphasis on professional photographers, becaming very popular amongst Apple users. iView Media was subsequently bundled by various industry players such as Nikon, Roxio and others.
Microsoft acquired iView Multimedia (the company) in 2006 following a successful collaboration to support the Wildlife Photographer of the Year – Natural History Museum competition.
Remarks, workflows and impressions of the iView software can be read here.
